Tom Izzo is not excited that he gets the opportunity to provide Michigan State fans some enjoyment while the football team struggles on the field. He’d rather both be dominant year in and year out.
The gridiron Spartans recently fired Mel Tucker for cause and have looked dreadful on the field, sitting at just 2-3 on the season with losses to all of its Power 5 opponents thus far.
Izzo told reporters Tuesday at MSU hoops media day he is indeed ‘proud’ of the opportunity to provide some entertainment to fans with the football program how it is right now.
Izzo says he feels more of a weight to give MSU’s fans something to enjoy and be excited about, given what’s happening with football.
“I’m not excited that I feel that way. But I’m proud I get the opportunity.”

And the Spartans should be able to entertain a lot of people this season, not just Michigan State fans. The Spartans are set to be a top 5 team in the country this season after a run to the Sweet 16 last season.
Mady Sissoko, AJ Hoggard, Jaden Akins and Tyson Walker are all back for Michigan State on a team that has a mix of veteran talent and strong freshmen athleticism in Jeremy Fears, Xavier Booker and Coen Carr.
