Ryan Day’s offense looked sluggish against Rutgers during the first half.

Ohio State went into halftime down 9-7 on the road in New Jersey. The Buckeyes had 128 total yards of offense in the first two quarters.

When asked how to get the offense going Day opted to first shine a light on how well his defense is playing in the game. As for the offense, he believes that the key to improving is to finish off drives.

Converting on third down was also a key from Day during the halftime interview with CBS Sports.

“Well, I gotta tell you, the defense is playing their tails off right now and they’ve been put in some bad situations,” said Day. “We gotta do a better job of finishing off drives. Gotta stay on schedule and convert on third down.”

On the defensive side of the ball, Day wanted to see more of the same. Ohio State held Rutgers to 42 yards passing, but the Scarlet Knights had 128 yards rushing in the first half.

“More of what they’re doing,” said Day. “They’re doing a great job, we just gotta do a better job on offense.”

Throughout the first half, Day was shredded by multiple fans for the way the Buckeyes are playing on the road. After opening the CFP rankings as the No. 1 team in the country, Ohio State is in serious jeopardy vs. the Scarlet Knights in Week 10.
