Ryan Day could have a new starting quarterback in 2024.

This season, Kyle McCord won a prolonged QB battle in training camp and started all 12 regular-season games for Ohio State. Devin Brown served as the primary backup when healthy as McCord went 11-1 as the team’s starter.

However, things were far from seamless for the Buckeye offense with a number of slow starts and close calls plaguing Ohio State. It eventually culminated with a 2-interception performance from McCord in a loss to Michigan.

Sunday evening, Day declined to commit to McCord as QB1 for the bowl game and beyond, and that story took another step Monday with McCord opting for the transfer portal. The QB could decide to return to Ohio State and withdraw from the portal, but it currently appears that McCord is likely to leave with Day searching for the next starting QB in Columbus.

Considering the visible frustrations of Day throughout the season, and his comments on Sunday, it is not a shocking development, to say the least. Whether or not the Buckeyes move forward under Brown or find a new QB in the portal will be a major storyline, but fans and media weighed in on Monday morning’s news on social media.
