A former Purdue and LSU quarterback has been waived by the New England Patriots after a few weeks into fall camp.
Tuesday morning, Field Yates of ESPN reported that Danny Etling has been waived by the Patriots. A quarterback in college, Etling was making a transition to wide receiver in an attempt to earn a spot on the roster.
Etling, a seventh-round selection in the 2018 NFL Draft, spent two seasons at Purdue before transferring to LSU to finish his college career.
The Patriots have waived QB/WR Danny Etling, per source. Etling begun working at WR this offseason to try to increase his roster chances.

For the 2018 season, Etling was a member of the Patriots’ practice squad. He had only appeared in preseason games in his career.

When the quarterback situation wasn’t working out earlier this offseason, Etling decided to make a change to wide receiver. He had hoped it would increase his chances to land on the roster, but it would’ve been a stretch with no experience at the position.
Etling will hope to be picked up by another team in the coming weeks before the start of the 2019 NFL season.
