The college basketball season doesn’t tip off for a few months, but Brad Underwood and Illinois has recorded a pretty big victory already.

Over the weekend, the Illini earned a commitment from Holy Cross transfer Jacob Grandison. The news was confirmed by Derek Piper of Illini Inquirer.

Grandison is a significant addition to the Illinois basketball roster. The 6-foot-6 player is a do-it-all player who averaged 13.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game as a sophomore at Holy Cross.

According to 247Sports, Underwood is a huge fan of Grandison’s size, versatility and ability to shoot from anywhere on the floor. He will be a great addition to a program anticipating a big jump in the coming years.

Grandison will have to sit out the 2019-20 campaign due to NCAA transfer rules, unless he’s granted an immediate eligibility waiver.
