Mark Dantonio speaks up on transfer portal situation: 'The new norm, as sad as it is'

Michigan State got off to a pretty hot start in 2019, opening up with a 4-1 record after its first five games. As much talk as there was about the Spartans’ offense being lackluster, it had scored 28 or more points in the four wins it recorded.

However, the next two games resulted in losses — a 34-10 defeat to Ohio State — and a 38-0 loss to Wisconsin. That’s when the talk about Michigan State’s offense really picked up.

And in the last month, the green and white have had six of its players enter the transfer portal, signifying them wanting to get out of East Lansing. Five of those six played on the offensive side of the ball.

With all of the players choosing to leave Mark Dantonio and the Spartans, Dantonio opened up about the transfer portal situation and how it is affecting college football:

Dantonio said he has had individual talks with all six players who went into the portal. Wants to wish them well and take the high road, but adds MSU must focus on itself, too. "When a scholarship opens up, you try and make yourself better."

Dantonio says he does not talk about the transfer situation with his team. "I keep marching forward. That's what we do."

Dantonio is essentially saying that him and the team just have to move on. It is what it is to lose players to the transfer portal. That’s just the way it is nowadays in the world of college football, “as sad as it is to say.”
