Report: Rutgers interviews Alabama analyst, ex-SEC head coach for head coaching vacancy

Rutgers fired Chris Ash earlier this season with Nunzio Campanile filling the interim role while a head coaching search is conducted. Now, one SEC analyst and ex-head coach has reportedly been interviewed for the job.
There have been a number of rumors around the program since Ash’s dismissal. Among those rumors, some have speculated a reunion between Rutgers and former head coach Greg Schiano who won 68 games and five bowls with the Scarlet Knights. Others have linked Mississippi State head coach and former Penn State assistant Joe Moorhead to the vacancy.

Now, James Kratch with NJ.com is reporting that ex-Tennessee head coach and current Alabama analyst Butch Jones has interviewed for the position. Jones is reportedly the first to interview for the position, and he actually has ties to the program:
Former Central Michigan, Cincinnati and Tennessee head coach Butch Jones, currently serving as an offensive analyst at Alabama, became the first candidate interviewed for the Scarlet Knights’ vacancy here on Friday, a person with knowledge of the situation told NJ Advance Media.

Jones, 51, is a Michigan native who served as a graduate assistant at Rutgers from 1990-92.
Jones has an 84-54 overall record as a head coach in 11 seasons at three schools. His longest tenure was in Knoxville when he led the Volunteers to a 34-27 record and 3-0 bowl record in five seasons.
