Purdue is at 4-7 overall and 3-5 in Big Ten play this season. The Boilermakers’ final game of the season is taking place against in-state rival Indiana today and the 2019 campaign as a whole hasn’t gone according to plan.

Part of that is absolutely due to injuries. Whether it be at quarterback, running back, wide receiver, to star defensive players, etc., the injury bug has bitten the Boilermakers pretty badly this year. At quarterback, for example, Aidan O’Connell was the third-stringer coming into the season.

He’s starting Saturday against Indiana.

During a play in the second quarter, when the Boilermakers were trailing the Hoosiers, freshman wide receiver David Bell made one heck of a play on a ball thrown by O’Connell:

Was it a poorly thrown ball by O’Connell? Maybe. Was it Bell slipping on the wet field? Perhaps. Did Bell trick the defender to get him out of the way so that he could make the catch?

That would be impressive.

Regardless of what happened, the throw and catch did occur. Bell’s acrobatic play on the ball was just the cherry on top.

And again, he’s just a freshman. The best is yet to come for Purdue.
