Is Urban Meyer on his way to Dallas? Rumors have surfaced that he may be in talks with the Cowboys assuming the head coaching role becomes available.

But, before Meyer goes to any sideline to coach again — assuming he ever does — he spent his first year in a college football analyst role this season. Earlier this week, he reflected on his position:
“The football people that I know think that’s the best segment on television,” Meyer said Wednesday of Urban Analysis with former Indiana head coach (2002-04) and current BTN analyst Gerry DiNardo. “I actually love doing it. I love sitting — I guess I love football that much — and I love talking with someone that’s a very high intellect, like Gerry is, and the reviews and responses I’ve gotten from people, it’s been over the top.
“So I was horrified, in the summer, that I wasn’t going to like it. Jumping in water or riding roller coasters or something like that — it’s not that. We’re talking football and I think fans really want to talk football. They want to learn football and that’s something I’ve done for 30-something years. I really enjoyed (Urban Analysis). Our glass board was really neat. And our FOX Big Noon Kickoff, from what I understand, we beat (ESPN’s College) GameDay for the first time in 25 years in just that one hour (11 a.m. through noon ET).”
Meyer also talked about the job as a whole and what it’s all about:
“I think everybody wants to talk football,” Meyer said. “They want to learn what the RPO (run-pass option) is. They want to learn about rugby tackling, about the back-shoulder fade and that’s for the real football fan. The other stuff’s entertainment — which, I think, that’s a big part of it, too, I’m learning — but football’s football.”
Again, we’ll see where Meyer heads next. He may stay put and be an analyst with FOX again. After all, ratings seemed to go up on the network this college football season when compared to recent previous years. FOX likely wouldn’t mind having Meyer back.
