Typically, recruits have one thing in mind: where they are going to end up playing next. Occasionally, a recruit will commit or sign with a program and then try and get others to join him.
Players want to play not only with people they like, but the best players they can play with as well.

Over at Nebraska, Henry Gray is a 4-star defensive back from Miami, Florida according to 247Sports Composite. Sure, Gray is a great athlete. He’s a great prospect. He’s ranked as a top-250 player in the country for a reason.
But, he might be an even smarter, better recruiter than he is a player.
Nebraska coach Scott Frost pointed out how much Gray knows about the Huskers’ 2020 recruiting class:
Scott Frost on 'Sports Nightly' tonight noted that Husker signee Henry Gray could break this class down as well as any. Said Gray knew every kid NU was recruiting. "I think he's going to end up being a commentator for ESPN or end up working for one of these recruiting services."

Again, Gray’s a great player. But, part of that might not be just because of how athletically gifted he is or how hard he works.
It might be because of how smart and on top of things he is as well.
