Mike Woodson’s hiring made an instant impact in Bloomington, and that impact continues to reverberate this week.

At the end of the season, the Hoosiers fired head coach Archie Miller after a late-season collapse and another year without a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Following that decision, a number of Indiana players entered the transfer portal.

Since Woodson has been hired, leading scorer Trayce Jackson-Davis announced that he is foregoing a shot at the NBA to return to Indiana for his junior season. That decision alone gives Woodson a building block for the 2021-22 season, but the good news did not stop there.

Freshman guard and former five-star prospect Khristian Lander made the decision to withdraw from the portal and return to Indiana. Quickly following his move, freshman forward Jordan Geronimo announced he would also be staying put instead of transferring.

On Wednesday, Woodson and the Hoosiers received even more good news, once again via the transfer portal. This time, Indiana landed a commitment from Pittsburgh transfer Xavier Johnson.

Johnson is a 6-foot-3 junior guard and former ACC All-Freshman selection. A versatile contributor, Johnson appeared in 84 games with 81 starts for the Panthers.

For his career, Johnson has per-game averages of 13.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.5 steals while shooting 40% from the field. He should be a fantastic addition with his experience and versatile skillset joining the Hoosiers.
