Rutgers officially announced its spring game will be held on Thursday, May 20.

Coach Greg Schiano said last week this was the likely outcome, but now it’s official. The Scarlet Knights were forced to a re-schedule from the original May 1 date due to COVID-19.

The game will be a 7 p.m. ET kickoff and will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.

Rutgers also announced that limited fan attendance will be permitted, in accordance with local COVID-19 guidelines. The capacity will be 5,000 spectators, per the release.

This will be the first opportunity for fans to see Greg Schiano’s program in person since his second stint with the Scarlet Knights began.

Last season, Rutgers was a competitive 3-6 but bowl eligibility suddenly feels possible for the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers hasn’t been to a bowl game since 2014 — its first year in the Big Ten.

Since then, Rutgers hasn’t even come close to reaching a bowl game. Its best record over this span is 4-8, which it accomplished in 2015 and 2017.
