2021 season opener between Minnesota-Ohio State gets schedule change
The 2021 B1G season opener between Ohio State and Minnesota has received a schedule change.
On Tuesday, both Minnesota and Ohio State announced that the Week 1 contest between the cross-division opponents has been moved to earlier in the week. The Buckeyes and Gophers will now open the 2021 season on Thursday, Sept. 2 at TCF Bank Stadium. The game was previously scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 4.
Schedule change for @OhioStateFB … The Buckeyes will still open the 2021 season on the road against Minnesota, but the date has been changed to Thursday, Sept. 2 from Saturday, Sept. 4. So it will be Ohio State at Minnesota on Thursday prior to Labor Day weekend, not Saturday.

Minnesota has opened every college football season since 2012 on a Thursday night. It will be the first time Ohio State has started the year on a weeknight since 2017, when it played Indiana in Bloomington to open the season.
The Buckeyes and Gophers have met on the field 52 times in history, with Ohio State dominating the series 45-7. OSU has won the last 10 matchups in the head-to-head series, dating back to 2001. Minnesota’s last victory in the series came in 2000.
Ohio State won the most recent matchup 30-14 in Columbus in 2018.
