This is not the type of list you want to end up on.

As he traditionally does, Dan Wolken with USA TODAY published his Misery Index following the Week 9 action. Though the Missouri Tigers occupied the top spot on Wolken’s latest Index, he had three B1G teams mentioned throughout.

Nebraska was the first B1G team mentioned by Wolken that he had squarely in the “In Misery” portion of the index. He hammered home that the Cornhuskers have been a bad team for much of the year while also highlighting Scott Frost’s tirade on hoodies after the loss to Indiana.

Wolken went on to say that Frost has pointed the finger at his players, but Frost will have plenty pointed back at him if he doesn’t improve things quickly.

…We’ve known for awhile now that Nebraska is bad. It’s been evident from the first week of the season, and fans have long since reached the acceptance stage. But it was only after the Huskers lost at home to Indiana, 38-31, that we heard second-year coach Scott Frost unload on his locker room for having too many players who don’t care about being great and accept being “just OK.” … Well Scott, if you dislike your team so much, you better go recruit some new guys and get them on the field in a hurry. Because after the promising end to last season and all the hype that you helped feed into this year by talking about what a great offseason your team had, it’s interesting how differently you view that locker room now that you’re an unimpressive 4-4. Now that the truth is out there about the root cause of your problems, the finger is going to be pointed right back at you if you don’t fix it soon.

That is definitely a harsh assessment of the Cornhuskers, but it definitely feels spot on after some of the unimpressive results on the field.

In Wolken’s “Trending Toward Misery” section, he highlighted Michigan State and Purdue. For the Spartans, Wolken discussed a Michigan State offense that was brutal and fell to a new low in the loss to Penn State.

For the Boilermakers, Wolken mentioned how quickly things have disintegrated since the upset over Ohio State in 2018. Purdue is remarkably 4-10 overall since that win with Jeff Brohm providing a disappointing season after signing a new seven-year contract.

Hopefully, these three teams can turn things around quickly. Be sure to read Wolken’s entire Misery Index following Week 9 here.
