Week 6 is upon us and it’s a bit of a letdown after Week 5 was so much fun. But one thing the Big Ten always delivers is plenty of drama on Saturdays, and this week is no different.

Here are the five juiciest storyline in the Big Ten in Week 6:

1. Will Ohio State fall into a lull after big win at Penn State?

Ohio State is the class of the Big Ten so far this season, with last Saturday’s exciting victory over Penn State the big exclamation point on its 5-0 start to the season. They enter a four-game stretch now that features Indiana, Minnesota, Purdue and Nebraska and at first glance, those should all be easy wins.  But could Ohio State fall into a trap Saturday against Indiana, who, despite being a four-touchdown underdog, always seems to give the Buckeyes trouble at least for a little while. There are no national television spotlight games for a month, but the Buckeyes need to keep cruising along at a high level.

2. Can Michigan’s defense get off to a good start for a change?

Michigan’s defense, ranked No. 1 in the nation in yards allowed, doesn’t have an unblemished record. Twice this season, first against Notre Dame in the season-opening loss, and then again last week at Northwestern, the defense has struggled early, allowing 14-0 and 17-0 deficits. This is a storyline that is both odd and disturbing, and it’s certainly one that needs to stop. The Wolverines have a home game Saturday against Maryland and they need to dominate early, especially on the defensive side of the ball, and leave no doubt as to who is the better team.

3. How will Iowa look in its first road game of the season?

Iowa is off to a 3-1 start and has been mostly impressive doing it, especially on defense. But today is a new animal — no Floyd of Rosedale pun intended — as the Hawkeyes travel to Minnesota to take on the Gophers. It’s the first road game of the season, and that’s always different. It’s also the first game for Iowa after a bye, and ere’s what is really odd. During Kirk Ferentz’s tenure at Iowa, he is just 2-8 on the road after a bye. It might be purely coincidence, but the Hawkeyes as a 7-point favorite need to end that trend.

4. Will Northwestern find a way quit blowing leads?

Northwestern is off to a surprising 1-3 start, and it could be so much better. They’ve lost three games in a row to Duke, Akron and Michigan and there’s been a stunning thread running through the losing streak. The Wildcats were up 7-0 on Duke before giving up 21 unanswered points in a 21-7 loss, and led Akron 21-3 at halftime before losing 39-34. Then they led Michigan 17-0 at home last Saturday before falling 20-17, gaining only 60 yards in the second half. To pull off an upset Saturday at Michigan State, which is possible, the Wildcats need to play a 60-minute game.  Wouldn’t the perspective of this season be different if the Wildcats were 4-0 instead of 1-3?

5. Can Michigan State get its running game going?

Mark Dantonio has never been an excuse guy during his time at Michigan State, and he’s not about to start now. But with most of his offensive lineman fighting through injury and LJ Scott still not healthy, it’s made for troubled times in the Spartans running game. They’re 13th in the Big Ten in rushing yards heading into Saturday’s game with Northwestern, and it’s a good time to change all that. Northwestern has won the lost two meetings in this rivalry. “Coach D mentioned we haven’t beat them at our place since (2009), so that’s just extra motivation for us,” Michigan Sate quarterback Brian Lewerke said. “Losing the last two against them, we want to get back on a winning streak.”
