Last week, a bizarre college football story hit the news.

Georgia Southern QB Shai Werts was initially arrested for speeding, but police saw a substance on his car and asked him what it was. Werts said that it was bird poop.

It wasn’t bird poop. It was cocaine.

Werts was then suspended. Understandably so.

However, on Monday, Werts was reinstated to the team. Wait, what?

Werts reportedly took and passed a school drug test. That’s all Georgia Southern needed.

Werts certainly didn’t get away with no punishments at all. However, he will be playing football again this fall. Call it a slap on the wrist if you’d like.

Werts and Georgia Southern will take on Minnesota on Sept. 14 in Minneapolis, Minn. Werts appeared in all 13 games for Georgia Southern in 2018. He threw for 987 yards on 116 attempts while also rushing for 908 yards on 182 carries and scoring 15 rushing TDs.
