You don’t have to be a college football savant to know that next Saturday’s clash between Ohio State and Penn State is huge. Over the last three years, it’s developed into one of the biggest games across the country.

And now, heading into Week 5, it appears that this year’s matchup between the Buckeyes and the Lions is even more important. That is, if you trust ESPN’s CFB Playoff Predictor.

Following Ohio State’s win over Tulane and Penn State’s victory over Illinois, the Playoff Predictor has tabbed Saturday’s contest in Happy Valley as the most impactful game remaining of the season, aside from conference championship games.

Currently, Ohio State has a 51% chance to reach the CFB Playoff at the end of the year. Penn State sits at 40%. Those numbers drastically change depending on the outcome on Saturday.

If the Buckeyes pull off the road victory, the likelihood of reaching the Playoff jumps up to 73%, while Penn State’s odds drop to a meager 19%. If the Nittany Lions come out on top, their percentage improves to 58% while OSU’s decreases to 31%.

Both teams still have Michigan and Michigan State remaining on the schedule, both of which are currently ranked in the top 25. So there would be some ground to make up for the loser of Saturday’s game. But if the past two years tells us anything, it’s that the winner of OSU-PSU will head to the B1G Championship.

In 2016, Penn State defeated Ohio State and claimed a B1G title. Last fall, the Buckeyes knocked off the Lions and won another conference championship.

Saturday night’s game between Penn State and Ohio State is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. College GameDay will also be on the scene.
