ESPN’s FPI is predicting the conference races in the 2022 college football season. In the B1G, that includes what should be a wild west division race to Indianapolis.

Most notably, the FPI has 5 teams with a greater than 11% chance to win the conference and no team above a 31% chance to win the conference entering the season. That is a stark contrast from what the FPI sees in the B1G East where the system sees Ohio State as a heavy favorite.

The results from the West division are particularly interesting in that Nebraska is given the best odds to head to Indy for the B1G Championship Game. The Huskers were slightly ahead of Wisconsin on the ratings.

Purdue, Minnesota and Iowa were the other programs projected to compete for the division. The defending west champion Hawkeyes had just the fifth-best odds from the FPI in 2022, though part of that may be related to scheduling. Iowa must face both Ohio State and Michigan in crossover games this season.

Here is how the Football Power Index sees the B1G West shaping up in 2022:

  • Nebraska – 31%
  • Wisconsin – 28.2%
  • Purdue – 14.6%
  • Minnesota – 13.9%
  • Iowa – 11.5%
