Each year, numerous awards are handed out. Numerous All-American teams are made. But, there are five that are considered to be more important than the rest.

If a player is an All-American on each of those five selectors, then they are deemed unanimous All-Americans. After the FWAA All-America teams were announced, 12 B1G players were named to those first and second teams.

It then became official that five B1G players were unanimous All-Americans:

  • Antoine Winfield, DB, Minnesota
  • Chase Young, DE, Ohio State
  • Jeffrey Okudah, DB, Ohio State
  • Tyler Biadasz, OL, Wisconsin
  • Jonathan Taylor, RB, Wisconsin

As the tweets above show, this is an impressive accomplishment. Being named a First-Team All-American anywhere is impressive. But to be named First-Team for the Associated Press, American Football Coaches Association, Football Writers Association of America, Sporting News and the Walter Camp Football Foundation?

Beyond impressive. Take Winfield from Minnesota for example.

He’s only the second Golden Gopher to be a unanimous All-American since 1962 for the program. Each of these five players have had remarkable season, and if there was any indication on just how remarkable they were, it’s the fact that they are unanimous 2019 All-Americans.
