In 49 states, it's just basketball: Indianapolis hotel sets record for largest March Madness bracket
An Indianapolis hotel has combined the state’s passion for basketball and the popularity of March Madness to set a world record.
The JW Marriott located in downtown Indianapolis has set the record for the largest March Madness bracket in history. The giant bracket, which is plastered on the front of the hotel’s structure, stretches an enormous 47,000 square feet.
The hotel actually set the record for the largest March Madness bracket originally in 2015, but this year’s design is between 15-to-20 feet taller, breaking the old record.
From the Indianapolis Star:
A hundred hours of printing went into the 800 individual blocks of the near-47,000 square-foot bracket on the JW Marriott, but the first big project in one of the most anticipated months in recent Indianapolis sports history is finally complete. The bracket was designed by Section 127 and printed by Sport Graphics, Indianapolis-based companies that had worked on NCAA branding for years and completed projects such as the 2015 bracket as well as a large poster for the Indianapolis Super Bowl, which also graced the side of downtown Indianapolis’ largest hotel.
This year, the entire NCAA tournament will be played in Indiana. Four of the host sites will be located in Indianapolis: Hinkle Fieldhouse (Butler University), Farmers Coliseum (IUPUI), Lucas Oil Stadium (Indianapolis Colts) and Bankers Life Fieldhouse (Indiana Pacers). Two B1G schools will host games, as well, as Purdue’s Mackey Arena and Indiana’s Assembly Hall will welcome teams in a few weeks.
Earlier this week, the NCAA released court designs for March Madness.
