Mark Dantonio and Jim Harbaugh have had their moments. Well, it was mostly one moment, and it was on Twitter after bowl destinations were announced following the 2017 season.

Michigan State earned a Holiday Bowl bid while Michigan received a trip to the Outback Bowl. Considering the Spartans won the head-to-head clash and owned the better record, it was somewhat surprising that UM was the one headed to Tampa.

After the announcement came, Mark Dantonio kept his response brief.

“You know, the records are what they are. I’ll just continue to concentrate on beating Michigan and thing will sort of sort out.”

Those comments prompted this brief Twitter “feud:”

But during his weekly press conference on Tuesday, Dantonio was nothing but complimentary toward Harbaugh and the Michigan football program.

“I think Coach Harbaugh does a great job,” Dantonio said. “I think he’s all about that. I think he tries to play the game like it’s supposed to be played and I think he respects the football game, he respects the game, the general game of football.”

Dantonio also said that, over the last three seasons, Michigan has played “with great sportsmanship on the field,” something else he credits to Harbaugh.

Michigan State owns a 2-1 record in the game since Harbaugh arrived in Ann Arbor, making this Saturday’s matchup critical for the Wolverines.

The rivals will go head-to-head at noon E.T. in East Lansing.
