Boise State blew a 21-0 lead en route to falling 36-31 at UCF in its season opener Thursday night.

The most backbreaking play came late in the fourth quarter. Boise State quarterback Hank Bachmeier threw a costly interception in bizarre fashion. On 3rd-and-4, Bachmeier rolled out to his right and moved three yards past the line of scrimmage before throwing the interception.

That’s definitely an early candidate for the mistake of the year. Earlier in the game, Boise State scored on an incredible 100-yard pick-six. It was an awesome play that Boise State fans will be reliving for quite some time, but it’s bittersweet because of the defeat.

Boise State ended up with two more plays with 10 seconds left but wasn’t able to produce a game-winning touchdown.

Boise State will look to bounce back in its primetime home opener vs. UTEP on Sept. 10 (9:30 p.m. EST/FS1).
