NC State not giving up on chance to play bowl game just yet
As COVID-19 continues to wreck bowl plans, North Carolina State has not quite given up on finding an opponent to play after its Holiday Bowl opponent dropped out.
Tuesday afternoon, news broke that UCLA was having to drop out of the Holiday Bowl due to COVID-19 within the Bruins program. It was a late notice with that game slated for Tuesday evening.
While NC State AD Boo Corrigan acknowledged the decision was disappointing, particularly on late notice, he also indicated NC State will continue to search for a makeup opponent:
“This is an incredibly frustrating outcome for our players and staff who worked so hard to put themselves in position to get a 10th win,” wrote Corrigan in a statement shared on Twitter. “The timing of the announcement in proximity to kickoff was very disappointing…
“We have been in touch with numerous teams and will continue to make every effort to find a replacement, if possible.”
Of course, any makeup would have to come at a later date with Tuesday’s matchup officially canceled. Whether or the Wolfpack is able to find a team to play – in the Holiday Bowl or elsewhere – remains to be seen.
