Oregon signed Ewa Beach (Hawaii) Campbell quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele on Dec. 4. Less than a month after enrolling with the team, Sagapolutele is entering the transfer portal.

He told ESPN he’s leaving the program after just a few weeks on campus because he wasn’t made to feel like a priority.

“I just felt that I wasn’t a main priority [at Oregon],” Sagapolutele told ESPN. “Of course, there’s going to be competition anywhere I go. But I’m just looking at other QB rooms and the best place for me to go get on the field early.”

Sagapolutele wants to start as a freshman, according to multiple reports. Starting for the Ducks in 2025 means beating out Dante Moore (a former 5-star) and Austin Novosad (a former top-150 recruit) during the offseason. Both of those players were already on the roster when Sagapolutele chose to flip his commitment from Cal to Oregon during the Early Signing Period.

He also joined a 2025 class that already featured another pledge from a quarterback — San Diego-based passer Akili Smith Jr., a top-200 recruit in his own right.

Nothing was going to be guaranteed at Oregon.

And that was seemingly made clear in his short time with the program. Sagapolutele practiced with the team throughout Rose Bowl prep.

Cal is expected to be involved once again, per ESPN. The Golden Bears didn’t sign a 2025 quarterback and need to replace this year’s starter, Fernando Mendoza, who has transferred to Indiana.
