Yes, it’s preseason rankings time.

We already saw Sporting News’ preseason All-American teams, which featured nine B1G players. On Friday, it was time for a new publication to rile up fanbases across the country.

Sports Illustrated ranked its top 100 players in college football, which featured 14 B1G players.

Here were the B1G players that made the cut:

  • 81. Mike Gesicki, Penn State TE
  • 71. Maurice Hurst, Michigan DT
  • 60. Jack Cichy, Wisconsin LB
  • 59. J.T. Barrett, Ohio State QB
  • 51. Godwin Igwebuike, Northwestern S
  • 50. Tyquan Lewis, Ohio State DE
  • 49. Tegray Scales, Indiana LB
  • 41. Trace McSorley, Penn State QB
  • 37. Billy Price, Ohio State C
  • 35. Nick Bosa, Ohio State DE
  • 31. Justin Jackson, Northwestern RB
  • 29. Josey Jewell, Iowa LB
  • 22. Rashan Gary, Michigan DL
  • 5. Saquon Barkley, Penn State RB

There was plenty of love for Bosa and Gary, both of whom lived up to their five-star billing as true freshmen. Jackson and Jewell both got respect as the best players on non-traditional powers.

But there were plenty of snubs, the biggest one being Penn State safety Marcus Allen. There were other players like Troy Fumagalli, Jerome Baker, Mason Cole and others that were left off. Wilton Speight, Akrum Wadley and Jazz Peavy could’ve been on there, too.

Ohio State led the way with four representatives while Penn State had three, Michigan and Northwestern had two, and Indiana, Iowa and Wisconsin all had one apiece.
