One of the fun aspects of the college football season is to see which young stars bust onto the scene as true freshmen. Two years ago, it was Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor. Last fall, it was Purdue’s Rondale Moore.

This season, there’s sure to be plenty of freshmen who turn heads on the gridiron. And with the start of the season now officially less than a week away, 247Sports is attempting to project which newcomers will have All-American-type seasons in their first year.

247Sports revealed its True Freshman All-American team on Monday. Two B1G players made the list: Purdue defensive end George Karlaftis and Ohio State wide receiver Garrett Wilson.

Karlaftis is one of the highest-rated recruits in Purdue history, coming in as the top player out of Indiana and the No. 59 overall prospect from the 2019 class. He’s also listed as the fourth-best strong-side defensive end.

Already, Karlaftis is practicing with the first-team defensive line and could make an immediate impact for the Boilermakers as a true freshman.

Wilson was a five-star wide receiver out of Texas and was ranked as the 20th-best overall player of the 2019 class. He’s the No. 3 player out of his home state and the No. 2 wide receiver of his cycle.

Ohio State is loaded at the receiver position, so it might be difficult for Wilson to see as many snaps as some of the other players 247Sports included on its list. Still, Wilson has enough talent to make some contributions to the Buckeye offense this fall.

Those are just two names to keep an eye on this season. There will likely be plenty of others who didn’t quite make the list who will have outstanding years, as well.
