Illinois will be unable to cut down the nets as national champions this year, but one of the brightest stars from this year’s squad raked in a national honor Saturday.
During ESPN’s College GameDay leading up to the Final Four contests, the winner of the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award was announced. Ayo Dosunmu headlined a group of finalists that included Jalen Suggs (Gonzaga), Jared Butler (Baylor), Cade Cunningham (Oklahoma State), and Collin Gillespie (Villanova).

Dosunmu was dynamic for the Illini this season. He averaged 20.1 points per game to go along with 6.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists while shooting 49% from the field.
Among his many accomplishments this season, Dosunmu scored a season-high 36 points in a loss to Missouri. He also recorded two triple-doubles while Illinois led the B1G in conference victories this season. Dosunmu was also named the Most Outstanding Player as Illinois rolled to the B1G Tournament title.
Congratulations to Dosunmu on a fantastic season! He becomes the first B1G recipient of the Bob Cousy Award since Michigan’s Trey Burke in 2013.
