Isaiah Williams was a key piece for Illinois in 2021 after switching to wide receiver from quarterback. If Thursday’s spring game is any indication, he will once again prove to be a focal point of the offense in 2022.

During the spring game, Williams hooked up with QB Tommy DeVito multiple times, including for 2 touchdowns from deep. While it remains to be seen if DeVito opens the season as the starter, what should be certain is Williams’ importance as a dynamic playmaker who can stretch the field for the Illini.

That was also the case in 2021 when Williams led Illinois in catches (47) and receiving yards (525). His 6 offensive touchdowns also led Illinois for non-QB players.

Following Thursday’s spring game, head coach Bret Bielema praised Williams’ standard of work but also shared his challenge to the wide receiver. According to Bielema, he challenged Williams to “set the standard of this place” coming out of the spring session.

Already a key piece of the offense, it is time to see what Williams can accomplish as a leader for the Illini.
