Illinois’ excellent recruiting weekend spilled over into Monday, as the Illini received more great news.

On Monday, four-star wide receiver and in-state product Jadon Thompson gave his verbal pledge to Lovie Smith and Co., becoming the third player to commit to Illinois since Sunday afternoon. He joins three-star offensive lineman Marcus Harper and four-star running back Reggie Love in the 2020 class.

Thompson made his decision public via a video on Twitter. He tweeted it out early Monday afternoon.

Thompson fills a major void for the Illini, which has lacked depth and talent at wide receiver. Though he won’t land in Champaign until 2020, he’s a huge get for the staff.

A Chicago native, Thompson is ranked as the fifth-best player out of the state of Illinois. He’s also ranked as the No. 55 wide receiver in the class and is hovering around the top 300 of overall athletes in the cycle.

In addition to Illinois, Thompson had offers from six other B1G schools: Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota and Purdue.

Thompson’s commitment moves Illinois up to 37th nationally with its 2020 recruiting class. It also sits at No. 8 in the B1G. The Illini’s 2019 class ranked 59th nationally and 13th in the B1G.
