Illinois LB named Bednarik Player of the Week

After Illinois’ impressive season-opening victory vs. Nebraska, the program is starting to get some national attention. The latest recognition goes to Illinois linebacker Calvin Hart.
For his performance in the victory, the 6-foot-1 Hart was selected for the Bednarik Award Player of the Week. The award is given weekly to the nation’s top collegiate defensive player.

Hart amassed six tackles, a sack, 1.5 tackles for a loss, two fumble recoveries, and a touchdown vs. Nebraska. Hart tallied 17 total tackles, two sacks, and two forced fumbles in the shortened 2020 season. During the 2019 season, Hart totaled 35 tackles, a sack, and a fumble recovery.
Illinois coach Bret Bielema joined CBS Sports Network recently and discussed a variety of subjects, including the atmosphere in the locker room after the victory.
Illinois is seeking its first winning season since 2011. Next up for Illinois is a home contest vs. UTSA on Sept. 4 (7:30 p.m. EST/BTN).
