Former Indiana University basketball player, national champion and Indiana Pacers head coach Bobby “Slick” Leonard has passed away, according to multiple reports. He was 88.

Numerous media outlets reported of Leonard’s death on Tuesday.

Leonard played at Indiana in the 1950s and was a member of the Hoosiers’ 1953 national championship squad. He was a consensus second-team All-American during the 1954 season.

From 1968-80, Leonard was the head coach of the Indiana Pacers and led the organization to three ABA championships and won 529 career games as the leader of the franchise. That number has been retired at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, the current home of the Pacers.

For over 30 years, Leonard has been working in broadcasting as a radio analyst for the Pacers. He coined the phrase “Boom, baby!” when Indiana makes a 3-point shot during a game.
