Indiana, just a few days after seeing its 2024 dream season end, has added a huge piece for a potential encore in 2025 by signing former Maryland running back Roman Hemby, a source told ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Monday morning.

The junior has been a workhorse for the Terrapins, leading them in rushing 3 seasons in a row. He rushed for 607 yards and 6 touchdowns this season. In 2023, Hemby had 680 yards rushing and 4 TDs, and in 2022 he nearly had 1,000 yards for Maryland, settling for 989 yards and 10 touchdowns in a breakout season.

In total, Hemby has churned out 2,347 yards rushing and 22 touchdowns during an already standout career that the Maryland native wants to make better next fall in Bloomington.

The 6-foot, 208-pound Hemby will join an Indiana program that is coming off an 11-2 season that saw the Hoosiers reach the top 10 and make the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff under first-year head coach Curt Cignetti. The Hoosiers fell to Notre Dame on Friday night in the first round and are now turning their full attention to 2025, which Hemby will be a big part of.

Meanwhile, Maryland has now lost its leading rusher and its starting quarterback from 2024, both to Big Ten schools, with Billy Edwards Jr. transferring to Wisconsin.
