Indiana head coach Tom Allen is confident that he followed proper university protocol when dealing with suspended running back Morgan Ellison, who was recently accused of a sexual assault involving a fellow IU student.

Ellison had been suspended prior to the start of the 2018 season and was initially unable to participate in any team activities. But the sophomore running back returned to practice on Sept. 13 while still being barred from playing in any games.

On Oct. 3, Ellison stopped practicing after the university handed down a 2 1/2-year suspension for the alleged sexual assault.

“We followed all the applicable University rules and policies that our department has, that the University has, followed them all, everything I was told to do,” Allen said.

Ellison allegedly assaulted the fellow student while she was sleeping and, when she woke up, used force to continue the assault. Ellison maintains the act was consensual.

Allen did not comment about the situation after Saturday’s game.

“It’s an ongoing situation that still has not been resolved, so I can’t comment about that, but I feel very confident that we did, and I followed, the things exactly what I was told to do,” Allen said. “I believe in the system we have in place, the police we have out our University for this type of situation, and have confidence in what they’re doing, and therefore I just tell the truth and do what I’m told.”

Last week, it was unclear whether Ellison had filed for an appeal on the panel’s decision.
