Iowa wide receiver Brody Brecht is making his first career the start for the Hawkeyes – on the mound. For Sunday’s B1G Baseball Tournament semifinal against Michigan (1 p.m. CT/2 p.m. ET, Big Ten Network), Brecht, a 2-sport athlete, will be Iowa’s starting pitcher.

Brecht, a freshman right-handed pitcher out of Ankeny, has made 16 appearances for the Hawkeyes this season. Over 22.1 innings pitched, Brecht has a 1-3 record and 2.42 ERA, allowing 12 hits, 14 runs and 6 earned runs. He has struck out 44 while issuing 23 walks.

The Iowa-Michigan winner will face Rutgers later Sunday in the B1G Tournament championship game.

On the gridiron, Brecht did not see any game action, taking a redshirt for the 2021 season.
