Making plays is nothing new for former Iowa defensive back Desmond King.

He intercepted eight passes in 2015, recorded 263 tackles in his career and proved to be an effective special teams return man in his final two seasons. His ability to make big plays is what made him such a special player at the college level.

Now, he’s making plays at the NFL level and his teammates and coaches are taking notice.

“You see (No.) 36 making plays?” Korey Toomer, King’s teammate, said. “He was all over the place.”

In two preseason games, King has recorded an interception, a forced fumble, a sack and a tackle for loss. It’s an impressive start for the former Hawkeye. Even his head has been impressed.

“He’s light years from where he was during rookie mini camp,” head coach Anthony Lynn told Chargers.com.  “Now that he knows what he is doing, he’s playing nickel, he’s playing safety.  He has a versatility to go out and play corner in a pinch and he’s making plays on special teams.”

King’s skill set has definitely translate to the next level, at least during this preseason. It should be fun to see what kind of things he can do when the NFL regular season gets underway.

King was taken in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
