Iowa basketball is hoping to land a key player via the transfer portal and was included as a finalist on a recent list.

The player is Fardaws Aimaq, a 7-foot big man out of Utah Valley. Aimaq began his college career during the 2018-19 season at Mercer before transferring to Utah Valley.

After back-to-back dynamic seasons with the Wolverines, Aimaq hit the transfer portal. He recently discussed a group of five finalists with ESPN’s Jonathan Giovany, as well as testing the NBA Draft process.

The Hawkeyes were included among Aimaq’s finalists alongside Washington, Texas Tech, Texas, and Gonzaga.

Over the past two seasons, Aimaq has started 54 games with averages of 16.9 points, 14.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocks. He is a two-time All-WAC and two-time WAC Defensive POTY recipient as well as the 2020-21 WAC Player of the Year.

It has already been a busy offseason for Iowa. Keegan Murray is headed to the NBA and Kris Murray is also testing the draft waters while retaining his college eligibility. Joe Toussaint also left the Hawkeyes via the transfer portal for West Virginia.

Landing Aimaq would help Iowa reload and prepare for the 2022-23 season.
