Iowa basketball player Jordan Bohannon suffered a “serious head injury” during an assault in Iowa City early Sunday morning.

That news was shared by Iowa basketball in a release on Monday afternoon.

The program said he was physically assaulted and is receiving medical attention for his injury. Coach Fran McCaffery also issued a statement.

“Thankfully Jordan is recovering well after being attacked by an individual he did not see coming at him,” McCaffery said in the release. “We were made aware of the incident immediately. We are grateful that friends who were with Jordan at the time kept the incident from escalating. His health is our number one concern.”

No other details are available at this time.

Bohannon previously announced he is returning for a sixth year at Iowa next season. He took a medical redshirt in 2019-20. All players were granted a free year of eligibility in 2020-21 due to the pandemic.

For his career, Bohannon is averaging 11.5 points and 4.4 assists per game. He was one of Iowa’s best shooters last season, making 39 percent of his 3-point attempts.
