Iowa defensive back Sebastian Castro revealed another major decision for Iowa’s defense Saturday evening.
A veteran leader in the 2023 season, Castro confirmed he will return for one more season with the Hawkeyes in 2024. He will exercise a sixth year of eligibility in the program after originally joining Iowa via the 2019 recruiting class.

Castro has developed throughout his career in Iowa City, and he has been a key contributor since the start of the 2022 season. He led Iowa this season with 3 interceptions and also tied with Jermari Harris for the team lead with 8 pass breakups.
Castro was the third-leading tackler for the Hawkeyes with 67 total tackles and also delivered 8 tackles for loss, a sack, a pick-6 and a forced fumble. Across the past two seasons, Castro has 100 tackles, 11 TFL, 2 sacks, 3 interceptions, a pick-6, 13 pass breakups and 3 forced fumbles.
Already, Phil Parker’s Hawkeye defense is in good hands heading into 2024. Castro joins a veteran group headlined by linebacker Jay Higgins and defensive back Jermari Harris who will be back with the unit next season.
