Late Monday night, McDonald — a redshirt freshman LB for Iowa — announced that he was transferring to Troy:

McDonald chose to go to a Troy team that competes in the Sun Belt conference that went 10-3 overall a season ago. Iowa is shifting to a 4-2-5 defensive base look, which certainly gives LBs less of a chance to see the field and may be part of the reason McDonald is leaving.
McDonald was ranked as a 3-star prospect by 247Sports in the Class of 2018.
