Iowa’s secondary is losing one of its top performers.

Monday evening, safety Geno Stone announced via Twitter that he will be forgoing his final season in Iowa and has declared for the 2020 NFL Draft. Stone released a lengthy statement about his decision in a tweet.

Stone appeared in all 13 games for the Hawkeyes this season and collected 70 tackles and broke up four passes. He also forced three fumbles and hauled in an interception this fall. Iowa finished the season 10-3.

Stone has a big part of Iowa’s secondary for the last three seasons, appearing in 38 total games throughout his career. He leaves Iowa City with 127 total tackles, including four stops for loss. He also broke up seven passes and had seven interceptions.

Stone was one of a handful of Hawkeyes expected to make a decision on his future this offseason. Defensive end A.J. Epenesa and offensive lineman Tristan Wirfs are both likely to declare for the NFL Draft as well, but neither has made an announcement yet.

Offensive lineman Alaric Jackson plans to return to Iowa next season.
