Iowa WR Ihmir Smith-Marsette on game against Rutgers: ‘It’s going to be a dogfight’

In Week 1, Iowa took care of Miami (OH) 38-14.

The win was by no means perfect, but, what win truly is? The Hawkeyes are 1-0 and so is their next opponent, Rutgers. The B1G clash will be the conference’s first of the season featuring two of its own teams.

Rutgers beat UMass 48-21 and outscored the Minutemen 31-0 in the second quarter to completely turn the game around. Iowa wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette knows Rutgers well. Not because the Scarlet Knights are a part of the Big Ten, but because the pass-catcher is from New Jersey.

He has friends on the team. And earlier this week, Smith-Marsette talked about the upcoming matchup:

“I low-key wish I could play them at Rutgers, just to be back home,” Smith-Marsette said. “Shoot, we get a chance to play them, period, so no matter where it’s at, I’m going to show up and it’s going to be a dogfight.”

The word “dogfight” insinuates that it should be a pretty well-fought, tough football game. Is Rutgers up to that task after going 1-11 overall a season ago?

We’ll find out at noon on Saturday at Kinnick Stadium when Iowa hosts Rutgers on FS1.
