Jordan Bohannon might be the official voice of student-athletes now.

Over the course of the NCAA Tournament, several student-athletes attempted to swipe a “March Madness” rug as a souvenir from their appearance in the Big Dance. Florida State attempted to take one, Purdue’s Ryan Cline nearly walked out with one and other players from across college basketball made took their shot.

Bohannon and teammate Nicholas Baer were successful in their attempt, posting a picture of the popular rug to social media. With the photo, Bohannon also gave the NCAA an ultimatum.

“Give us the ability to make money off our own name and we’ll give you your rug back,” Bohannon wrote in a tweet. “You have 24 hours, NCAA.”

The image appears to come from Baer’s account.

Bohannon’s effort to give student-athletes the right to earn money off their name fell short. However, it sounds like the March Madness rug will stay on Iowa’s campus. The Hawkeyes star issued an apology through Twitter, allowing him to keep the souvenir.

“After much deliberation, the NCAA has agreed with the [Universiy of Iowa] the rug can stay in Iowa City as long as I issue a mea cupla,” Bohannon wrote. “With that, I am sorry for my actions. No one is denying the incredible opportunities the NCAA provides for athletes like myself. I am forever grateful.”

The hope of taking a step for student-athletes fell short, but Bohannon and Baer get a pretty cool keepsake from the NCAA Tournament. That should be worth something, right?
