Phil Parker, Iowa’s defensive coordinator, generated buzz on the internet with an image of him getting angry at an official during Iowa’s game against Iowa State on Saturday.

The image showed a scowl on Parker’s face as a referee stood near Iowa’s sideline. Parker was visibly upset with a referee and it was an intense reaction to a call that was made.

It was a frustrating performance for Iowa, as the Hawkeyes suffered a 10-7 loss at home to a bitter rival. Iowa’s defense held Iowa State to 10 points, but the defensive effort was not enough to win the game. The last 2 games required the defense to keep games close when Iowa’s offense struggled to score.

The Iowa defense finished the game with 89 total tackles and 1 sack on Hunter Dekkers. Iowa defensive back Cooper DeJean led the Hawkeyes with 11 total tackles, which included 6 solo tackles. Linebacker Seth Benson was second on the team in tackles with 10. Riley Moss, Quinn Schulte, and Jack Campbell all had 9 tackles in the loss to Iowa State.

Through 2 games, Parker’s defense has only allowed 13 points against South Dakota State and Iowa State. Parker will hope to have that same success on defense moving forward.

Iowa hosts Nevada on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
