Iowa does not have a realistic shot at rolling to the College Football Playoff this season. However, the Hawkeyes are still a strong team in the eyes of the CFP committee.

Despite being unranked in the latest AP Poll, Kirk Ferentz’s program received a top-20 slot in Tuesday’s latest CFP rankings. In fact, Iowa checked in at No. 16 overall coming out of Week 11.

In spite of the offensive struggles this season, Iowa has managed to post an 8-2 record and jumped 6 spots in the latest CFP rankings. The Hawkeyes are just one spot behind LSU and 4 spots behind Penn State while checking in just ahead of Tennessee, Notre Dame and UNC.

With two games to go, Iowa does not have the time to climb high enough to seriously push for the CFP, and no team has ever reached the 4-team field with 2 losses. However, a strong finish to the season and a tough showing in the B1G Championship Game could put the program in position for a strong bowl game at the end of the season.

As for the recent ranking, social media at a bit of fun with the idea of Iowa as a top-20 team. Check it out:
