The University of Iowa wants to get all of its students involved in the best tradition in sports early in their academic careers.

This week, incoming students at Iowa had the opportunity to gather at Kinnick Stadium, a week before the Hawkeyes take the field for the first time in 2019. And those freshmen got to participate in the best tradition in college sports, waving to the patients at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital that overlooks the field.

It’s the tradition that has become popular across the country. And when Iowa starts the season against Miami (OH) on Saturday, Aug. 31, everyone will be waving at the end of the first quarter.

Here’s the video of those new Iowa students waving to the children in the hospital across the street. We’re already looking forward to seeing this tradition in Year 3.
