Maryland reportedly promoting staff member to DC following Kevin Steele debacle

Maryland previously thought it had its next defensive coordinator in Kevin Steele. Unfortunately, Steele bolted shortly after taking the program to join the staff at Miami under Mario Cristobal.
Shortly after Steele’s change of heart, the Terrapins reportedly parted ways with DC Brian Stewart Wednesday morning. Stewart was set to be demoted to DB coach under Steele but is not expected to remain with the program.
Now, Matt Zenitz with ON3 is reporting that Maryland is planning to promote co-DC and DL coach Brian Williams to the full-time DC role. Williams joined the program in 2019 and took over the DL unit in 2020. He served as the defensive play-caller for Maryland’s final 2 games of the 2021 season.
Williams, who had received interest recently for assistant jobs at a couple prominent programs, allowed just 26 total points in his two games as Maryland’s defensive play-caller last season (wins over Rutgers and Virginia Tech) https://t.co/UG1BXIWjFd
