Maryland offensive coordinator and interim head coach Matt Canada interviewed for the permanent position with the program, according to a report.

The Washington Post reports that Canada interviewed for the vacancy earlier this week. The interviews are being conducted by Parker Executive Search, a firm out of Atlanta that was contracted to help with the search.

Canada filled in for D.J. Durkin while the former head coach was on administrative leave and subsequently fired. Canada coached the entire season, posting a 5-7 record with a 3-6 mark in B1G games.

On Tuesday, it was reported that Alabama offensive coordinator Mike Locksley was the leading candidate for the position, but would not interview until after the Crimson Tide’s appearance in the SEC Championship Game. A native of Washington, D.C., Locksley has served on the Maryland staff as an assistant coach previously and has ties with the area.

While the coaching carousel tends to move at a rapid pace in college football, it’s unlikely Maryland makes any decision until next week when it interviews Locksley.
