Maryland’s quarterback depth will be a bit shorter for a little while.

The Terrapins are still running a quarterback competition in fall camp. Mike Locksley used two guys, Tyrell Pigrome and Josh Jackson, with the first team during a recent scrimmage as that race continues. Jackson is the incoming transfer from Virginia Tech while Pigrome saw limited action with the Terrapins in 2018.

As he waits to name a starter, Locksley announced Saturday that one backup quarterback will miss extended time. According to Jeff Ermann with Inside MD Sports, Locksley informed the media that Max Bortenschlager will miss eight weeks due to a stress fracture in his leg or foot.

While Bortenschlager was likely not in consideration for the starting job, his injury does take a hit on Maryland’s depth for a while. He has thrown for 1,522 yards and 11 TDs in his career and brings experience to the quarterback group.
