3 takeaways from Michigan’s dominant 52-10 victory over Minnesota

Michigan has answered every test so far this season, and the Wolverines appear to be picking up steam heading toward Week 7. After acing the first road test of the season last weekend, Michigan completely dominated Minnesota in another road game for Week 6.
This time around, it was a dynamic dual-threat outing from JJ McCarthy and a brilliant defensive effort that paved the way to another Michigan win. On the flip side, Minnesota struggled to do anything effectively on offense and was overpowered in every facet of the game.
Without further ado, here are the key takeaways from Week 6:
JJ McCarthy continues flawless road performances
McCarthy has been fantastic all season long, and that makes Saturday night’s outing even more impressive. Before being lifted for Jack Tuttle, McCarthy completed 14-of-20 passes for 219 yards and a touchdown without an interception.
The QB also added some production in the ground game. He finished with 17 yards on 4 carries and 2 more touchdowns. That gives McCarthy 3 total touchdowns in the game, matching his season-high total from a week ago and from the season opener against East Carolina.
Fans might be able to nitpick over which of those outings has been McCarthy’s best of the season, but he’s firing on all cylinders to begin B1G play.
Michigan’s defense outscores Minnesota’s offense in dominant fashion
It’s not often a defense gets a chance to score more points than the opposing offense. However, that’s a feat the Wolverines produced in Week 6.
The scoring from the Michigan defense started right after the opening kickoff with Athan Kaliakmanis getting picked off by Will Johnson on the second play of the game. Johnson scored the first points of the game with that pick-6, and it set the tone for what was to come.
Keon Sabb added an additional pick-6 in the second half to give Michigan’s defense credit for 12 points scored. As a unit, the defense allowed just 10 points in the win, and it was Michigan’s first game since 2017 with multiple pick-6 plays in the same game.
Blake Corum matches Mike Hart in all-time record books
Corum had a relatively quiet night in Week 6, though it’s worth noting part of that was related to the few carries needed from the star running back. When it was all said and done, Corum finished with 9 carries for 69 yards and a touchdown.
Corum was efficient on his touches, and that includes a notable score. That touchdown from Corum tied him with current position coach and fellow UM star Mike Hart in the all-time record books for the Wolverines.
