Jay Harbaugh likes what he sees from Michigan RBs entering season
There haven’t been many questions about Michigan’s position groups this offseason. In most areas, the Wolverines bring depth, talent and experience.
The one area where depth and experience is lacking, though, is at the running back position. With Chris Evans off the team, Michigan’s backfield is relatively green. The talent is there, but the experience is behind.
So far, running backs coach Jay Harbaugh doesn’t really see an issue with the position group. While young, he says everybody in the room is performing at a high level heading into the season.
“All those guys are playing at a high level,” Harbaugh told Angelique Chengelis of The Detroit News. “So, we’ll see as the season goes on if anyone really separates themselves, in the way that you’re looking for me to say.”
Tru Wilson, Christian Turner and Zach Charbonnet are the three guys expected to compete for the carries for the Wolverines this fall. And behind the best offensive line in the B1G, it may not matter too much who’s toting the rock.

If Michigan goes running back by committee, the Wolverines could have fresh legs in the backfield all year long. That would especially pay off late in the season, with key matchups against Michigan State and Ohio State coming in November.
Michigan opens the season against Middle Tennessee on Saturday.
